About Creciendo Juntos (CJ):

Creciendo Juntos means “growing together” and was launched initially as a fiscally-sponsored program of Piedmont Housing Alliance. CJ was formed in response to an urgent need for culturally responsive services for the growing Latinx community in Charlottesville, Virginia.

Currently, CJ is an independent, nonprofit organization (501c3) committed to building Latinx youth power in the Charlottesville area. Our mission is to nurture bold changemakers who embrace their identities, dream big, and advocate for a more just and inclusive world. Through transformational education, spaces of belonging, and youth-led collective action, we are shaping a future where everyone can rise, lead, and inspire meaningful change.

Youth Organizer 

CJ is seeking a Youth Organizer who is looking to expand their grassroots-organizing, programmatic, and leadership skills. The ideal candidate is someone who has vision, is a self-starter, and is eager to help build Latinx youth power in the Charlottesville area. 

The Youth Organizer will play a key role in developing future campaigns, base-building, and outreach strategies. Reporting to the Interim Executive Director, they will collaborate with the Director and Board to design and implement organizing strategies and initiatives that align with our mission and goals.

OVERVIEW

  • Location: While this position is hybrid, you must be within 2 hours driving distance of Charlottesville, VA.
  • PT/FT Status: Part-time to start
  • Schedule: 30 hours per week M-F, occasional weekends and evenings
  • Salary: $39,000 annually
  • Benefits: 1.5 days of paid time off per month, plus 11 federal holidays. There will also be opportunities for professional development paid for by CJ, with prior approval from the Board.

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Programs (45%) 

  • Collaborate with the Board to lead the Si Se Puede (SSP) program, including strategic planning to shape its future and other programs. 
  • Support the Interim Executive Director in managing and training youth members, student volunteers, and mentors, as well as assisting with newsletter curation
  • Create an outcome/impact tracking system for programs, evaluate outcomes, and identify areas of improvements.
  • Track, document, and report on program expenditures and activities.

Outreach & Youth Engagement  (40%)

  • Develop and implement outreach and base-building strategies to recruit youth members and train them in grassroots organizing and campaign-creation.
  • Collaborate with community partners, schools, and youth organizations to expand program impact.
  • Organize and participate in community events and activities that promote CJ’s mission.
  • Manage program outreach through marketing materials, social media, and website updates.

Organizational Expectations (10%)

  • Communicate with the Board and its committees regarding work outcomes
  • Attend all staff meetings and Board meetings as requested by the Board
  • Build and maintain relationships with individuals, organizations, and coalitions at local, state, and national levels. 

Fundraising & Development (5%)

  • Provide data to the Executive Director as needed
  • Support in grant writing and fundraising as needed by providing context for grant proposals and potential donors.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Committed to racial, gender, economic, environmental, immigrant, and social justice.
  • Adaptable and able to focus on detailed tasks while quickly shifting to urgent priorities.
  • Ability to manage schedule to accommodate evening and weekend events.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to take detailed notes independently or collaboratively during conversations.
  • Ability to manage multiple responsibilities and relationships with honesty and integrity.

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Strong understanding of Latinx culture and the unique challenges faced by Latinx youth.
  • Spanish language proficiency.
  • Ability to use a variety of tools to reach the community, account for accessibility needs, and keep people engaged (ex. online tools, door-knocking, social media.)
  • Experience with grassroots organizing, youth engagement, community advocacy, and strategic campaigns.
  • Familiarity with civics, local and state legislatures, and budget processes.

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS (reasonable accommodations will be made):

  • Sit, type and use a computer for long periods of time.
  • Stand and walk for long periods of time at community events, fundraising events, etc.
  • Able to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
  • Occasionally lift objects weighing up to 10 pounds.
