undocumented high school students from the local Southwood Community who would benefit from the
DREAM Act, as well as Tim Freilich, an immigrant advocacy lawyer at the Legal Aid Justice Center in
Charlottesville.

County Police Engage in Dialogue with Hundreds of Area Latinos
The Albemarle County Police Department continues to demonstrate an interest in improving relations
and dialogue between the Latino community and the police. On July 14, 2011, the Department’s new
chief visited the Church of the Incarnation where he addressed over 300 Latinos, with the goal of building
on the efforts of his predecessor to maintain a dialogue with area Latinos so the ACPD can better serve
this community and answer any questions regarding the law and enforcement practices. For more

its Latino Outreach Program in Nelson and Albemarle counties which offers aid to low-income

 The University of Virginia Darden School of Business and its Tayloe Murphy Center released the findings
of a major study today that outlines specific steps for how banks and credit unions can capture billions of
dollars in deposits by reaching out to Latino and other “unbanked” households across the United States.
