CJ's Brown Bag Roundtable

Attend the CJ’s October Roundtable to network with other service providers, educators, non-profits, government agencies, businesses, and community members working with the Latino population. Share your Latino-oriented initiatives and services and discover new connections, solutions, and resources that benefit Latinos in and around Charlottesville.

5K Run/Walk for Shelter

To wrap up Domestic Violence Awareness Month the Shelter for Help in Emergency will hold its 21st annual 5K Run/Walk for the Shelter. Registration price $25. 

When: Saturday, November 4th, 2017

Time: 8 a.m.

Where: The run/walk begins on Charlottesville’s Downtown Mall.

Each participant receives a long sleeve cotton t-shirt and an opportunity to win one of our fabulous grab-bag prizes.

Harvest of Empire: The Untold Story of Latinos in America Movie Screening

Join us for a film screening of the renowned documentary Harvest of Empire:  The Untold Story of Latinos in America with author, producer, and Democracy Now's co-host Juan Gonzalez. The film will be followed by an interactive panel led by Mr. Gonzalez on how to be a part of this community's future. FOOD WILL BE PROVIDED!

Child Advocate for an Unaccompanied Immigrant Child Needed!

Bring hope to their journey of a thousand miles and become a child advocate for an unaccompanied immigrant child.

To become a Child Advocate, you must: be at least 21 years old; speak fluent Spanish or French; submit to a background check and health screening; participate in both days of training, and be approved by the Young Center.

How We Serve: The Young Center for Immigrant Children’s Rights trains volunteers to serve as Child Advocates for unaccompanied immigrant children in immigration deportation proceedings.

Free DACA Renewal Clinics

The Legal Aid Justice Center (LAJC) and Sin Barreras, are offering free DACA renewal clinics in Charlottesville, Virginia.

If you are a current DACA recipient whose status and work authorization expire no later than March 5, 2018, you have until October 5, 2017 to apply for renewal. If your DACA and work authorization expires after March 5, 2018 or if you miss the October 5, 2017 filing deadline, the government will not renew your DACA status.

Statement from Creciendo Juntos

The past month has been terrifying—the rally in August and today's DACA announcement are symptomatic of a broad and hostile climate for immigrants. As we continue to process this hostility, I want to reaffirm the values Creciendo Juntos stands for and the role CJ will continue to play in our community.

Arriba! Spanish
